The digestive fire of the Kapha type is quite weak and digestive residues and waste products are easily deposited in the body. For this reason, it is also particularly difficult for Kapha types - despite all kinds of diets - to lose weight, and they often feel tired and heavy after eating. Some Kapha types have developed a real aversion to inner lightness and purification. A long-time client of nutritionist Kerstin Rosenberg once said: "Actually, I like to eat everything - except what is healthy! Those foods don't agree with me at all."
Kapha people are very pleasure-oriented. They often compensate for stress, anger or inner conflicts with sweets or large amounts of hearty food. In the early morning, late evening, in spring, and for women before menstruation, this Kapha-typical eating behavior is particularly harmful. To prevent a Kapha disorder such as constant tiredness even though one is sleeping sufficiently, depression or water retention in the tissues, all very sweet, heavy, salty and fried foods should be avoided here.
Ayurvedic counselors should help those seeking advice with a strong kapha to lovingly accept themselves and their bodies. Daily outdoor exercise, yoga, an easily digestible composition of each meal, plenty of vegetables and metabolism-boosting spices such as turmeric, coriander, cumin, methi (fenugreek seeds) and garlic can balance a strong kapha.
In most cases, even a small change in diet gets the sluggish metabolism moving. However, Kapha types find it particularly difficult to let go of cherished habits. In this case, experience has shown that it is better to creep slowly into the new way of life with a small change of diet than to carry out a radical horse cure without any duration.

Kapha in excess makes you tired, heavy and listless. Also the interest in meeting and communicating with others becomes less. The body reacts with water retention, increased need for sleep and weight gain. Constant colds, shortness of breath and impure, oily skin are also typical signs that too strong Kapha is crippling the organism. What is good for you now? Everything that gets your body and psyche going.
Be sure to exercise regularly before or after meals.
Eat a small meal with plenty of vegetables and legumes two or three times a day. It is better to avoid snacks in between meals.
Avoid fried, heavy, greasy and salty foods, as well as cheese, raw vegetables and animal protein.
Take a fasting day or fasting cure on a regular basis.
Practice self-discipline and physical activity. During breaks, follow your natural need for rest and security.
