Review of the 24th International Ayurveda Symposium

The annual Ayurveda Congress at the European Academy of Ayurveda in Birstein from 16 - 18 Sept 2022 was again a great success. This year, in addition to a particularly renowned international team of speakers, we were also able to welcome high-ranking guests from the world of politics. Representatives of the AYUSH Ministry of the Indian Government, the All Institute of Ayurveda as well as ambassadors of India in Germany came especially for the opening of the Symposium.

After the long break - because due to Corona, the 2020 and 2021 symposium took place exclusively online - the focus was of course on the great reunion and personal exchange in addition to the official programme items and professional development. Finally, live and in person, the participants enjoyed the legendary Ayurvedic cuisine and the beautiful ambience on the campus of the European Academy of Ayurveda.

On the three main topics:

  • Dhatus and Upadhatus – Function and disorders of tissue metabolism

  • Special therapies in Ayurveda – Expert knowledge for medical practice

  • From the desire to have a child to the infant – Ayurvedic medicine at the beginning of life

there were a total of more than 40 specialist lectures, discussion rounds and expert panels. Optimally rounded off and complemented by numerous practical workshops on site. Some of these practical workshops had to be moved to larger premises at short notice due to the very high interest of participants. Although this was a bit chaotic at first, it clearly showed one thing: the combination of theory and practice in particular made the symposium varied and inspiring for doctors, therapists and counsellors.

Saturday evening was also a special experience. The planned Gurukul with Vedic fire and stories from the lives of the Vaidyias present was moved indoors due to the weather. The crowd was huge and so it became really "cosy" at times in the Lounge. However, we were able to enjoy the exciting stories and the Vedic fire positioned in front of the window much more relaxed in the warmth.

All in all, we look back on a successful 24th International Ayurveda Symposium and say to all speakers, guests and participants: Thank you! It was a lot of fun and leaves us inspired, full of energy and enthusiastic. A lot is happening in the world of Ayurveda and with regard to its acceptance and relevance in the current times. The international exchange among experts - personally, openly and in dialogue with participants of the Ayurveda professional world – plays an essential role.

The video recordings of all lectures will be available to all participants for two months after the Symposium (password protected).
